About Us

Who are these people, anyway?
The current Peer Mentor and Outreach Coordinator for the Spring 2012 semester is Shanna Hollich. Shanna is an online MLIS student taking classes in both the School Library Media and Digital Libraries tracks. She started the online program in Fall 2009 and is currently working as a research assistant at Virginia Tech and as a magazine merchandiser. She is also the head of the library for her local Unitarian Universalist Congregation and volunteers at her local public library when she can.

What does a Peer Mentor do?
The Peer Mentors are current Rutgers Online MLIS students who have completed at least 12 credits in the program. In addition to serving as a valuable resource for your student life questions, the Online MLIS Peer Mentors are also responsible for:
  • acting as a liaison between the online MLIS student body and the SC&I faculty and administration, giving current online MLIS students a way to express their needs and their opinions,
  • coordinating alumni outreach,
  • diffusing communications from campus,
  • ensuring that online MLIS students are represented in on-campus meetings.

How do I reach my Peer Mentors?
You can reach them via e-mail at pmentors@rci.rutgers.edu or pop into their virtual office in the Online MLIS Student Resource Center in eCollege.

What kinds of questions can I ask them?
Consider the Online MLIS Peer Mentors to be your tour guides through the program. If you have a question that begins with who, what, when, where, why, or how, ask your Online MLIS Peer Mentors. They will be able to point you in the right direction so that you can better navigate common administrative and student life issues at Rutgers (like how to pay your bill, how to find textbook information, how to contact your instructor, where to find the information/resources you need, etc.).
