Rad Ref at LISSA meeting tonight!

I'm really excited about this one, guys.  There will be a speaker there talking about Radical Reference, a group of volunteer librarians providing reference services (mostly online) with an eye towards social justice and equality.  They've been especially supportive of the People's Library at OWS lately.  This is an awesome, awesome group of people providing much needed services to those whose needs are not necessarily being served by their mainstream library communities.  I volunteer with RadRef from time to time.

SCARLA meeting tonight!

There is a SCARLA meeting tonight, 5:50pm, in the SC&I Faculty Lounge.  http://rutgersdceo.adobeconnect.com/scarla/ to join online.  They will be doing a short presentation on fellowships that are available after graduation.  This sounds like a great chance to learn about some professional development opportunities.  Should be a good meeting!  Hope to see you there.

There is also an RU ASIS&T meeting tonight at 6pm in the Pane Room of Alexander Library.  Unfortunately, I do not have any online broadcast details for this event - I was told they would be broadcasting, but I have not seen any links to how to join.  If you can't make it in person and wish you could view it online, contact me and I can work on making this happen for future meetings.  Sorry about that - most of the student organizations are now broadcasting, but there are still a few working on getting up to speed with this.

First LISSA meeting of the semester!

The time for club meetings has arrived, and LISSA is kicking things off tomorrow (Tuesday) with their first meeting.  5:50pm, SC&I Student Lounge, free pizza and soda.  To join online, use this link:

If you attend the meeting online, you'll be able to listen to (and see) the presenter and the meeting participants and you'll be able to make comments or ask questions via a text chat area on your screen.  So the experience is fully interactive!

Among other things, my understanding is that they will be discussing the opportunity to have an event or a panel of some sort to showcase non-traditional career paths that are open to those with an MLIS degree.  Especially with the job market the way it is right now, this is a really important issue.
